Physical exercise is essential to maintain good health. Good health is also promoted by the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib, the Scripture, for example, Guru Angad Dev Ji had established Mall Akharhas ( ਮੱਲ ਅਖਾੜੇ ) for young people for physical fitness. This continued during the period of each Guru and finally, during the period of Guru Arjan DevJi, Baba Budhaa Ji had started Martial Art training, and so on.
These classes are only offered for physical fitness, twice a week at Akali Singh Sikh Society.
In religious terms, the word "Jog"OR " Yog " means to bring one in union with God or (ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੋਗ ਦੇ ਅਰਥ ਜੋੜਨਾ ਹੈ, ਭਾਵ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਨਾ). The word "Yoga" is derived from the word "Jog".
The word " Meditation " used in Yoga is misinterpreted while engaged in Yoga exercises. The impression is given that Yoga Exercises connect people with God, which is not true at all. Besides some benefits offered by Physical fitness exercises in these classes for maintaining good health, these exercises in no way connect a person with God.
Most religions of the world teach good Ethics, Love for humanity and for the entire creation of God, which also includes care for the environment, respect for others and righteousness.
Yoga classes are for anyone interested in joining, young, old, female or male.
